Moving day is over and you’re in the new unit. The next 90 days are administrative grunt work: telling thirty-plus government agencies, banks, subscriptions, and service providers that you live somewhere new. Skip this and you’ll discover the gaps in awkward ways — your NRD-issued document arriving at the old address, your insurance claim contested because your registered address doesn’t match the accident location, your tax refund cheque returned undelivered.
This file is a comprehensive checklist with priority order, cost (mostly free), and where to do each one.
Tier 1 — within 14 days (statutory requirements)
These are legally required and have specific deadlines. Do them first.
JPN — IC address update
- Where: any UTC, JPN office, or via MyJPN app (limited)
- Deadline: 90 days statutory; do within 14 for clean documentation
- Documents: IC, proof of new address (utility bill in your name OR SPA/VP letter)
- Fee: RM 10 (RM 0 first-time IC update)
- Time: 30-45 min walk-in; new IC issued same day at most UTC
JPJ — driving license + vehicle registration address
- Where: MySikap online (JPJ portal/app) or any JPJ counter
- Deadline: 14 days statutory
- Documents: IC (after JPN update), driving license, vehicle grant
- Fee: RM 0 for address change only
- Time: 5 min online, 30 min walk-in
EPF — KWSP statement address
- Where: i-Akaun (KWSP portal), or KWSP office walk-in
- Documents: IC + i-Akaun login
- Fee: RM 0
- Time: 5 min online
LHDN — income tax address
- Where: MyTax portal (e-Daftar / e-Update Profile)
- Documents: IC + MyTax login
- Fee: RM 0
- Critical: do this BEFORE filing season, otherwise refund cheques may be returned
SOCSO / PERKESO
- Where: ASSIST portal (PERKESO)
- Documents: IC + employer code
- Some employers handle this automatically when you update with HR; verify rather than assume.
Tier 2 — within 30 days (financial accounts)
Banks, cards, and accounts where wrong address creates real problems.
Banks (current + savings)
For each bank you have an account with — Maybank, CIMB, Public, RHB, Hong Leong, etc.:
- Where: any branch counter, or in-app for some banks (Maybank, CIMB)
- Documents: IC + account number; bank may also request utility bill
- Fee: RM 0
- Critical: bank statements at wrong address = security risk; replacement card / chequebook to wrong address = fraud risk
Credit cards
Update with each issuer separately (sometimes auto-syncs with current account if same bank, often doesn’t). Use bank app or call centre.
BNM CCRIS
CCRIS pulls address from banks, so updating with each bank should propagate. Verify by pulling your CCRIS report at next BNM portal check.
Insurance — life, motor, medical
Each policy separately:
- Life: insurer’s customer portal or branch
- Motor: insurer’s portal — also often syncs with JPJ but verify
- Medical: insurer’s portal
- Critical for motor: claim disputes can hinge on registered address matching accident location for “garaging risk” classification
Investments — Bursa, ASB, unit trust
- Bursa: via your broker
- ASNB (ASB / ASM): online portal myasnb.com.my or branch
- Unit trust: via fund house portal (Public Mutual, Eastspring, etc.)
- Bonds (MGS, sukuk): via bondholder portal or registrar
PTPTN
If still repaying student loan — update via PTPTN online portal.
Cuckoo / Coway / water filter rental
Subscription company will route service technician to wrong address otherwise.
Tier 3 — within 60 days (utilities + services)
These either auto-update from JPN or need active outreach.
Old home utilities — disconnect or transfer
If selling: utility accounts close on completion date — coordinated by conveyancer.
If renting out: clean transfer to tenant — your conveyancer or property agent handles.
If retaining as second home: keep accounts in your name, update billing address to new home.
New home utilities
Already covered in our TNB / Air Selangor / IWK setup file. Verify all bills arriving correctly.
Internet provider (old + new)
- Old: terminate (early termination fee may apply if within contract)
- New: install (covered in utilities setup)
Astro / streaming
If Astro: update via app. If pure streaming (Netflix, Disney+): no address change needed unless billing address differs from card address.
Phone bills
Maxis, Celcom, DiGi, Yes — all via app or call centre. Important for postpaid invoices and SIM replacement.
Postal redirect (Pos Malaysia)
Set up mail redirect from old to new address for 6 months — RM 21-RM 42 per 6-month period via Pos Malaysia. Catches mail you forgot to update.
Tier 4 — within 90 days (subscriptions, professional bodies, gym)
Professional body memberships
- MIA, BEM, BAR, MMA, MIM, etc.
- Critical: many professional renewals send post to registered address
Gym memberships
- Anytime Fitness, Celebrity, Fitness First, etc.
- Important for billing receipts and contract correspondence
Online retailer profiles
- Lazada, Shopee, Zalora, foodpanda, GrabFood
- Update default delivery address (not just current address)
Subscription boxes / regular delivery
- Coffee, meal kit, magazine, vitamins, etc.
- Each has its own portal
Online services with billing address
- Netflix, Disney+, Spotify (billing address only)
- AWS, Google Cloud, GitHub Pro (billing address)
- Adobe, Microsoft 365 (billing address)
Healthcare records
- Specialist clinics where you have records
- Pharmacy with prescription records (e.g. Caring, Watsons cardholders)
- Insurance-linked panel hospitals
School / university
If you have children: update with school. If still studying: update with institution.
Religious bodies
- Mosque (kariah update for Friday prayer location)
- Church / temple parish update
- For Muslims: update kariah at JAIS / JAWI for funeral and zakat purposes
Tier 5 — within 180 days (one-time updates)
Will / estate planning
If you have a will, update beneficiary address and witness contact. Speak to your wasi (executor).
LIPHA / hospital pre-registration
If you have pre-registered with a hospital for any reason (maternity, chronic care), update for routing of records.
Veterinary clinic
If you have pets: update so vet can route reminders for vaccinations.
Children’s pediatrician + school records
If you have children: update with pediatrician and any child-care service.
Order matters — do JPN first
Many other agencies pull from JPN’s address record. If you update banks first but JPN later, some banks will overwrite your new address with the OLD one in the next sync cycle. Order:
- JPN (IC update) — ALWAYS first
- JPJ (license + vehicle) — within 14 days
- EPF, LHDN, SOCSO — week 1-2
- Banks (current account first, then cards)
- Insurance (motor first, then life/medical)
- Utilities (already covered separately)
- Subscriptions and minor services
Common gotchas
Joint accounts — both account holders need to update separately. Bank may not auto-update both names from one update.
Strata vs landed proof of address — for strata, your maintenance bill (after first month) is usually accepted. For landed, your TNB bill works. Some agencies want SPA / VP letter as evidence of property ownership specifically.
Address format — be consistent. “No. 12, Jalan Pinang 4/2A, Taman Pinang, 47100 Puchong, Selangor” vs “12 Jln Pinang 4/2A, 47100 Puchong, Selangor” — both work, but inconsistency between agencies creates synchronisation issues. Pick one format and use everywhere.
Spouse / family members — each person’s IC has its own address. Spouse’s IC needs separate JPN update. Children under 12 don’t have IC but parents should update children’s MyKid record at JPN.
Old utility bills as proof — once you start receiving bills at new address, file the first 2-3 of each utility. They’re the most universal “proof of address” document going forward.
What this dossier doesn’t cover
It doesn’t cover address change for non-citizens / dependants — slightly different process, requires JIM (Jabatan Imigresen) update for some categories. It doesn’t cover business address change for sole prop / Sdn Bhd — that’s an SSM matter, separate process.
For 90% of first-home owners in Malaysia, the checklist above covers the universe of updates. Set aside one Saturday in week 2, sit at the dining table with all your IC, account numbers, and laptop, and do them in batches. Five hours saves you six months of misdirected mail.
